OVERVIEW
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is designed to not only provide support to people with disabilities but also their families and carers.
The NDIS is primarily composed of individualized packages of support regarding eligible individuals with a disability. The aim of NDIS is to help people with disabilities to access community and mainstream services, such as sports clubs, libraries, health, housing, education and to also maintain informal supports such as family and friends.
It is estimated that by 2019 approximately 460,000 Australians will be eligible to receive individualized support.
